First of all - amazing info from the Youtube video from johnnynerdout that brought me to this site. I had been looking at buying a full-on new ebike and have watched dozens of youtube reviews. But a few of those videos brought out the point that if you already had a bike you liked that fit you well then maybe you ought to look at a midmount ebike kit. And that led me to this site. But I had also been to bafang's site and went through their measurement process and got surprised at the list price they wanted - more than the price of some decent, albeit heavy, off-the-shelf complete bikes with same or higher powered motor/battery sets. But in going through that process using bafang's quiz, I got some measurements that have me worried about whether converting makes sense. jonnynerdout's pricing makes doing a conversion much more palatable rather than buying a whole new bike.
So my first question is: Has anyone installed one of the kits on a Fantom29er? And the reason I ask is that I got what seems like minimal measurements like 5mm wall thickness on the bottom bracket and 68mm width for it with an ID of about 38mm. This was not an expensive bike but it has held up very well for 15 years.
I live in Colorado in a pretty hilly area and as I'm getting on in years, 77yo 6' 2" and 230 lbs and most of my riding is on paved or dirt/gravel roads with only occasional forays onto trails. I'm looking to make some of the climbs easier on my 10 to 25 mile routes that have a total elevation difference of about 1000 ft (6250ft MSL to about 7250 MSL).
