I have decided to build an e-bike and came across your youtube videos (nice job!). I am very confident I can do this so I found a donor bike to start with. I got a Giant Talon 4 29er ($300!), 7 speed rear drive 14-34 tooth, Shimano derailleurs, shifters, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. I think I want to install one of your kits mostly because you have already done the engineering and your prices are good. Probably the Monster Range Commuter w/52v 25 Ah. Not Sure which brake cutoff though, Shimano EF500 Brake levers. Might need to buy a few tools but other than that is there anything I should plan for or recommended? I live in Ohio and it’s fairly hilly, no mountains. Shopping is 6-7 miles away on chip & seal paved roads. I would like to have a bigger gear in the back but I don’t know if there is another option without changing derailleur. Would like to figure all of this out before I buy anything. Would love your suggestions. Thanks!

Hi - good luck with the build. I've done a Talon and you won't need the Leckie one-nut - the standard one is working fine. You don't need to swap out the drailleurs - but the 14 is way too high, mine is 11 - you can swap out the cassette instead. I just had a quick check and there are a few around although the choice isn't great. For that kind of riding you won't need a really big cog either.
id just say careful with a battery that large, its gonna add maybe 15-20 lbs to the bike which is a lot. a good size is 15-16ah, has a lot of range while not being too heavy. if the bikes BB has a 73mm, youll need a lekkie onenut if you go with bafang motor, also offset cranks will even the pedal difference. or wait for the new better motors being released like the CYC photon which blows bafang out of the water.
