Fellow Nerd-Outs, I'm located in the USA, Looks like Johnny Nerd-Out doesn't carry the Tongsheng TSDZ2B USB Programming cable to flash the Open Source firmware. Anyone out there have a favorite vendor for this type of thing. I'll be converting my old Fuji Professional and my Wife's Gary Fisher in the next 6-10 months and and starting to collect the items I'll need. Thanks in advance! If anyone has converted one of these and wants share details I'm all ears! Thanks again. -David

Hello again Dave and fellow Nerd-Outs,
Just purchased a ToSeven DMO1 from Johnny N.O. as well --and saw the recent video from Johnny about the programming possibilities becoming limited. High Voltage just dropped a video about the recent changes in mid-motors (Bafang included).
High Voltage stated that he advises buyers to not update the DMO1 / DMO2 motors with the new updates (for his community which is very much tech and DIY oriented) especially if you want the freedom to program. He's holding out hope that at some point that ToSeven's engineers / bosses might have a change of heart further down the line and allow more programming choices.
On Johnny's page for the DMO's he urges us to buy the programming kit--it is inexpensive. However that message was up before the new changes now in place regarding limits to ToSeven programming. The DMO1 arrived around December 7th '24, and like you, I'm unsure just which generation I have. I guess I'll know before too long as I gather more parts for the Velo Orange Piolet build I'm working on. I am not planning on getting the programming hardware -- unless I have the newer "limited" model.
Still have my two TSDZ2's, both on Surly's and they still perform well. I never bought the programming cable, for the Tong Shengs though. There is a new TSDZ8 that is 750 watts, physically larger than the TSDZ2. Wished that Johnny had it, it's for sale on eBay (wouldn't ever get a battery on eBay!!)
From my experience with torque sensing is how I decided to forgo tried and true BBS0's (I have two) for the DMO1. Yeah, I know 5 ebikes 🚲. Maybe a mini-velo for my next build, that'll fit in my apartment...🤣
Hey Dave, Electrify Bikes has a descent reputation and sell TSDZ programming kits for a reasonable price. Currently around $30. They won't be able to guide you through the process of programming, but instead encourage customers to utilize the "endless sphere" thread. Theres a TON of information on the endless sphere blog.
This is the description on Electrify Bike's page selling the product;
ST-LINK V2 USB PROGRAMMING KIT FOR TSDZ2 OPEN SOURCE FIRMWARE (OSF) UPGRADE
Hope this helps! Maybe give us an update too if you go this route. I have 2 TSDZ's and have wondered if I should go for an upgrade of programming.
