I have a 2017 Fuji Gran Fondo 2.5, relaxed geometry carbon fiber road bike that I might consider converting to mid-drive ebike. However I have seen comments on-line that carbon bikes can be bad candidates for conversion sometimes. Either due to excess material layed up in the bottom bracket area making motor fit problematic. Or, the bottom brackets on carbon bikes are sometimes "press fit" (or something like that, not sure what that means). I did look up the specs and apparently my bike came with a "Praxis Conversion" bottom bracket. Does anyone know if that is a show stopper?
Thank you.
Ok, thanks. Maybe I will look for a used metal frame hybrid.
likely wont work with bafang motor kits. double check, but standard sizes are 68mm, 100mm, 120mm BB diameter. carbon fiber not recommended for ebike due to torque forces, high speed etc. a wreck on one could snap the thing in half potentially. aluminum on the other hand has flex and can better absorb forces and shock from motor and impacts. metal frame will hold up better overall
