I know.you don't like hub motors but I have a question that I thought only you can answer. I have a magnum metro plus that basically died and is just sitting around. I found someone that can rebuild the battery but was told the motor is dead due to a broken cable. I recently found a company that will sell me a bafang 750w motor but the cable is different than my existing controller from magnum. I was told I could.probably wire it direct since it is a 48 volt. I thought of buying a new motor and wheel set from magnum but it seems like a lot of money for the same amount of power. What do you suggest? Any ideas you have would be appreciated. I also have come to love ebikes and have put 17,000 miles on the very bike in question. I have bought and paid for a new bosch bike but it all that it should be for the price. Wish that I had heard of you sooner!!!

Short answer is that you can re-wire the motor cable to work with a new controller most likely. The motor cable just has a set of hall sensors and a set of phase wires feeding the motor from the controller. You "should" be able to just match the color coded wires together and make sure they don't touch each other and create a short. It might just be easier (what I recommend) to get a motor kit with a controller and just rewire the (new)battery to feed the new controller. That's what I always do.
those batteries should be the Dorado type and can be bought from numerous sellers :)
