why does the mainstream push junk? because they have corporate deals to push the junk get you to think its a good ebike. then youre locked to that crappy hub motor. its physics. the torque of mid drive out performs a hub many fold plus you add you legs to the crankset for combined torque. its cool were all at a stage in the biking world, which is changing. research is your friend.
@1fitz I think you are being overy harsh. I have owned 2 hub drive bikes and neither of them were junk. Both gave me huge amounts of pleasure and were suited to the riding I was doing - inner city commuting and very flat. They were also the technology that began what we now enjoy, but what we have now wasn't available then.
Time has moved on and the manufacturers (assemblers) are trying to get as much out of their past investments as they can, so they use old technology to put out "entry level" bikes. If they get more people riding, then all power to them. We can promote what we do without rubbishing others.
true i mean i get that im not knocking the technology as it develops but as you said a lot of premade cheap ebikes end up with older tech and sadly end up disposable bikes when they break down, most people dont bother with expensive fixes on a hub motor once the warranty expires, in the dumpster they go... higher end premade ebikes cost more and usually use mid drive motors, but still even i know to avoid those... again some may be good or great bikes, but custom is the way to go for maximum flexibility, long term upgradability and less buyers remorse, less wasted products
This guy seems to know what he is talking about....😉
