Hey guys.
I am in the research phase of my build and looking for some advice on general viability and frame selection.
My end goal is to have a simplistic light weight jump bike, primarily for bike parks, mellow downhill and very little climbing.
Solid power, thinking bbshd if possible.
Here are some base bikes I have in mind.
Giant STP
Dmr sect
Scott voltage YT
Polygon Trid.
What are the biggest challenges with a build like this?
Will any of the above bikes work better than others?
I really like the giant STP, and it's offered in a geared or single speed version. Would geared setup be beneficial for type of riding I plan to do? I prefer the simplicity of single speed but if gears will help significantly then I would go that route.
Likely will have Johnny build this for me, but wanted to gauge community opinion and gather info before reaching out for a consult.
Thanks!
My 2 cents. You wont really get a lightweight jump bike unless u go premade which we dont recommend. Ebike kit adds 20-25 lbs minimum to your frame weight so youre looking at likely 48-55+ lbs minimum on most bikes. Doing tricks and jumps with that kind of added weight not recommended - can be dangerous and costly if you wreck. 2nd. youll need to research to find the most ideal frame that fits you and your use case. I have no idea about any of those frames, but hardtails generally convert easier. If you dont need to climb much then a BBS02 may be plenty enough. Single speed im not too familiar with its pros and cons, I use a 10 speed. 1s is more suitable for flatter terrain, commuting where you dont need to change the torque via other gears to adapt to variable terrain. Hopefully we can add a sticky post soon going over all the considerations and factors to keep in mind when doing an ebike build.
