I converted my boyhood Raleigh Sports to electric about ten years ago:
It's still useable, but way too frail. Purchased a Yamaha FZ07 about seven years ago, (my first motorcycle ever), and fell in love with the acceleration. But, had to sell it due to my obsession with that acceleration. Skated on a few citations and decided I better let it go before it started costing me serious fine money. I have a couple Breezer Uptown 8 bicycles collecting dust. I'd like to add a motor to at least one of them. I have a couple 5AH EGO batteries I can use to power it. Only a five mile commute, so range isn't an issue, but I want speed. Lots of it! I want to keep up with traffic on the 35MPH avenue, so 50MPH wouldn't be too much. Doable?
Speaking of "Cycloned", I see CYCMotor has a serious mid drive X1 Pro Gen 2 3000/5000W mid drive conversion kit. Can I throw 112 volts at that? Will my Shimano Nexus 8-Speed Premium Hub puke before long? Hah, what about the chain? I know enough to let off the throttle between shifts. If the prototype goes well, I can tweak it with a fancy sensor and what-not.
As far as safety, my limited motorcycle use during busy suburban rush hours taught me a few things. Most importantly, STAY ALERT! Becoming complacent is where you'll get burned. That, and staying ahead of the traffic. Being aggressive makes you particularly alert. Even poking along on the damn sidewalk has dangers. Many drivers are numbskulls, and it only takes one. Don't need to tell you how many are on their fvcking cell phones. God, I'd like to shove them up their GD asses!
Well anyway, any other motors in the running for making this bike move quickly?
well most standard ebikes are going to top out at about 40 mph with a BBSHD on flat ground, thats plenty. speed can also = danger. so be safe. no tickets on an ebike, long as you lay low. like dont take a cycloned ebike into a park and tear shit up. common sense.
