I am completely new to ebikes except for renting one. I originally considered buying a complete ebike but soon went down the internet rabbit hole of DIY. I am now ready to purchase a bike and motor. The use will be for commuting and hauling the kids in a bike trailor. I am located in the EU so will need to set limits. My commute daily commute have a 40m elevation climb over +-600m and then a easier climb after that so a mid drive will be the best option. I am now stuck between the two motors Bafang BBS02 and CYC Photon. The project is budget sensitive so I don't want to waste money but also want the best solution I can get for the money. I either need to go with a cheaper bike and CYC or better bike and BBS02. I am considering a entry level gravel bike (Cube Nuroad) or urban/fitness bike (Cube Hyde, Specialized Sirrus 1.0 or 2.0 or Trek FX). Torque sensing seems attractive to me but is it really worth the extra cost or worth buying a cheaper bike?

though a BBSO2 may seem cheaper. its not really. have to buy accessories, etc. its heavy as well but reliable. photon seems pricy, and its a pretty nice kit though it has some failure rate, covered by warranty of course. has nice speed presets for EU limits, etc. smooth system when it works. my take is never cheap out on anything ,especially the bike frame.
