Basically wondering if it would be possible to mount a battery on the underside of the down tube on this bike. I’d rather not have it on a rack on the back if possible. There does seem to be enough room even after shock absorber compression but no real way to secure it. Also, the tubes are wider and somewhat oval and there is not room near the rear hub for an upright rack mount. Trying to figure out a way to do this. I am good with tools materials, and mechanically capable. Thoughts? Thanks so much!

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me raindog, and for pointing out the issue with the cable guides. I’ve looked into that further and found a youtube video by Rev-bikes where they deal with that exact issue so I’m not too concerned about not being able to mount a mid-drive motor. Here it is. https://youtu.be/rcYVyuDC6e8 I‘m still deciding how to deal with the battery issue. If my wife is okay with it, I may go with the upper down tube, as you mentioned. I’m waiting for a triple bob mounting bracket from Grin. When that arrives, I’ll mess around with the different options and make a decision. Thanks again.
I wouldn't put a battery on the underside of the down tube, especially with those cables running underneath it. I don't see any bottle cage bosses in your pics, but you should still be able to mount a HaiLong or even a triangle battery pack on top of the top tube. You'll lose the easier step-over height that your frame was designed to accommodate, but no big deal. Your biggest issue with that bike is that you won't be able to install a mid-drive motor on it with those cables running underneath the down tube. No problem if you're planning to use a hub-drive motor, but I'd otherwise suggest finding better choice of bike to convert.
