I'm trying to rebuild this bike. Montague Paratrooper 48v 2000w folding bike. It's been sitting in my garage from almost 6yrs, and everything is dead on it. I was going to pull out the whole electric system and put something different.
My thoughts were to put a mid-drive in it, but a local ebike shop said THEY DONT RECOMMEND IT. The current system is a Crystalyte Phoenix 2 Cruiser. Does anyone know if the current system is still being made, or have any suggestions what I can do from here
gotcha. that bike can go anywhere with that motor. for range I use a 52v 20Ah triangle battery, 40-50 miles of range per charge when using it efficiently. 25-30 if you juice the throttle often. even on low PAS levels 2-3 you can climb any hill in your area with ease. youll be blown away how much better it is than hub motor.
Glad to see a Montague! Forget what your local 'ebike' shop said, clowns most of them - dont know squat about ebike converting. What was their reasoning? Durrka?... Montague is the best hardtail design for ebike conversion. See mine here: https://www.johnnynerdout.com/forum/general-ebike-forum/victory-best-performance-e-mtn-bike-best-decision-ever
your current best kit is a bafang or cyclone (off road only - 3000W), ditch hub motors, and we advise never to use hub motors. mid drive motors way outperform hub motors in terms of torque, power etc, not to mention ease of install and maintenance.
what do you need it for, hill climbing, mtn trails or, easier flatter terrain? let me know the details for what u plan to use it on, i can advise you. if you want to be strictly legal, 750w Bafang BBS02 kit is your best bet. If you need some more juice for steep climbing or speed the 1000w BBSHD is the next best option. Kits are refined and easy to install and work great.
