Hello, I'm interested in putting a cyclone 3 kW motor kit on my mountain bike, but I'm not sure if my bikes bottom bracket will allow it. My bottom bracket measures 73mm, and it looks like kits are available for 68 mm or 100-120 mm bottom brackets.
I'm wondering if either of these sizes could be compatible with my bike. Would it be possible to swap out my 73 mm bottom bracket for one that measures 100 mm?
I'm brand new to all of this, so any help here is appreciated!
common area of confusion for new folks. 68-73mm BBs always go with the 68mm motor option, there is NO other option you can use. that small difference of putting a 68mm motor mount on a 73mm BB is not an issue, a lekkie onenut with red locktite on a bafang kit solves that issue. be aware you may need offset crank arms (left arm with a larger offset than the straight drive side crank) to have even pedals with this setup. furthermore, i get you may be tempted with a cyclone, but its a high power monster motor kit for advanced users only, not newbies. the power can be overkill and dangerous for inexperienced riders, also its for off road only... you dont want a cyclone kit on common public trails for obvious reasons...safety, legality etc. its more suitable for very strong frame bikes, hardtails, of fat bikes with huge tires to absorb the impacts. you are better off with a bafang kit, bbs02 750w or bbshd 1000w, depending on what u want, pros and cons to both, bbshd is heavier but more powerful, for off road* while bbs02 is toned back a bit but still great pedal assist and climbing power depending on your gear ratios for the terrain you ride. also the bafang kits are easier to setup, program, and handle vs a cyclone kit.
