Apparently the bafang system is more stable so now I'm leaning towards that. But the jury is still out. Just got my donor bike today. THings are moving
If you want a mid drive, you want to convert a bike and you want a torque sensor.
Then consider a TSDZ2.
If you want a mid drive, you want to convert a bike and you a fine with a cadence sensor.
Then consider a Bafang (Bbs02b or Bbshd).A few things about the TSDZ2. It is not as powerful, but probably powerful enough. The plastic blue gear that come with the motor is known to wear out if you ride it hard. The brass replacement is noisy.
The open source for the Tsdz2 is very cool, like the ability to use different battery voltage.
I must say I have 2 Bbs02 bikes and I am overall happy with them, but I find the Tsdz2 with the torque sensor very appealing especially with the open source.
If you are going to do Tsdz2 be sure to look at the site Eco Cycles. They offer a Open Souce Firmware version of the Tsdz2. Be sure to consider the Cooling Modification to prevent overheating. Display 860C sounds very nice. What is interesting with the OSF firmware you can use different batteries (36,48 or 52).
Did you end up making the build with the Tongsheng TSDZ2? I'm just starting the research for my own build and was leaning towards that setup for the torque drive / natural feel.
I was very close to buy the tongsheng for the same reason but then I stumbled upon a yt video where it became obvious that it is a very loud engine compared to the bafang. So I got that instead. But no torge sensor then :/ maybe someone can confirm this? I just watched videos of them both.
The open source firmware is very interesting for the TSDZ2. It allows you to change a lot of settings from your displyay. Even battery for a 36v motor to use a 48v or 52v batter. Lots of other setting can be changed right from the display. One of the displays that is compatible the Bafang 960C. The main advantage of the TSDZ2 is the torque sensing, like Johnny mentione.
the EGGRIDER display allows you to do similar things for bbs02 & bbshd. From your smart phone. You can also change these settings with a PC,
Have you gone ahead and done anything? I have ridden a couple of torque sensing bikes lately (Giant, Specialized) and really like the feel. I have been looking at the Tongsheng, too. One of us needs to bite the bullet and give it a try!😁
It doesn’t have the accessories available to it that bafang does. It is physically smaller (not as capable of handling higher power). The only think it beats bafang in is the torque sensing.
@johnnynerdout have you ever done or would you be willing to do a conversion with that motor? I don’t need all of the power of a bafang because I like to pedal for exercise and I would really like a torque sensor in a mid-drive without breaking the bank. No problem either way, thanks for your videos.
