I bought a BBSHD and a Giant Talon 2. Unfortunately, it does not fit. See:
BBSHD not fitting on Giant Talon 2 2022 | Johnny Nerd Out Cust
People have suggested grinding down the tube, but I have not ridden this bike more than about 20 yards and I would rather return it for something I know will work. I'm looking for suggestions for a bike that I know will work. I am looking for:
- Hard tail
- Hydraulic brakes
- $700 - $900
I had originally had a 1x as a requirement (why pay for a derailleur I am going to remove), but some people have pointed out chain line issues with them when converting. At this point I just want a bike I know I can put the motor on.
Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, a lot of people want to convert high end, modern bikes to e-bikes, but a lot of modern bikes don't make good candidates, since those bikes are sold based on bottom bracket "improvements", internal cable routing and the such... I would say to look at less modern frames...
Ironically there are a lot of modern frames that would work well sold at Wal-Mart, but you would be investing in much more than just a motor and battery to convert them into a "good" bike (see my video on the Schwinn Boundary e-bike conversion).
For me personally, I agree with grinding the tube and making the motor fit...you destroy any form or warranty on the frame, but what are you hoping to keep up with the warranty by putting a motor on it in the first place?
