I have a new Giant Talon 2 (2022) and a BBSHD motor. I have seen many posts of people putting this motor on the Talon 2 (though pre-2022) and other similar Talons. I am finding it is only fitting when hanging straight down. Am I missing something? The diagonal tube extends slightly past the bottom bracket to allow for internal cable routing (and I think I see this in pictures of others who have installed this motor).
This is blocking the motor from being able to rotate up.
Did they maybe make a change in 2022 (though when I looked in the store, the 2021 seemed the same), or am I doing something wrong? I can't rotate it before putting through the bracket as the mounting tab would hit the frame.
@jthoni, I have the exact same problem with my wife's new Trek Dual Sport 2. I'm very nervous hammering the cable opening area to be more flat. It's a new bike and I don't know if if I'll screw something up. What did you end up doing?
My apologies for the inadequate photos I provided. Here is one taken side on and with the camera parallel to the floor
Which shows things better. Nothing was ground off but the curve at the bottom was made as flat as possible.
I realize even in the worst case, it would just be hanging low. It would still work (it fits, just does not rotate up). It actually ends up being a bit like this guys: 52V BBSHD on Giant Trance 2 LTD 2017 - EMTB Forums
I was almost sold on griding this down, but I am worried that it is more than just the lip of the tube. I wonder if the fact that the entire down tube hangs lower than the bb will mean that I won't have clearance to rotate the motor. I don't want to grind this and then find it still won't work. I do see that there is clearance for the cables, but I can't quite get an accurate mental picture of where the motor will finally sit.
A couple more pictures to help illustrate:
The thin red line is where the bottom of the tube would be if it didn't bottom out right to the bb.
Here is another angle:
And another video just for giggles:
This is the best I can do. The one from underneath doesn't really show what you want to see as the motor is in the way. The other 1 at least shows the angle I ended up getting. All I did was hit the edge at the bottom carefully until it was snug against the cables.
Like you say, once the hammer hits it, all other options are off the table.
On my Talon1, 2021, it got in the way. I mentioned it to the guy I bought the kit from, I am in New Zealand, and he suggested some "panel beating". So I got a hammer and flattened it as much as I could safely bearing the cables in mind. I'd prefer it higher but after 5mths and 2,000km it hasn't been an issue.
